Domenico Gaetano Maria Donizetti, más conocido como Gaetano Donizetti (Bérgamo, 29 de noviembre de 1797 - † 8 de abril de 1848) fue un prolífico compositor de óperas italiano, muy conocido por sus obras L'elisir d'amore, que contiene la famosa aria "Una furtiva lagrima"; Lucia di Lammermoor, inspirada en la novela de Walter Scott; y La favorita, acción desarrollada en Madrid, España.
Aunque su repertorio de compositor abarca un gran número de géneros, incluida la música religiosa, cuartetos de cuerda y obras orquestales, es sobre todo conocido por su obra lírica, componiendo hasta 75 óperas.
