David Fincher (10 de mayo de 1962, Denver, Colorado) es un director de cine de Estados Unidos.

Fincher comenzó su carrera como animador para Industrial Light and Magic entre 1980 y 1984 aproximadamente, tiempo en el que trabajó en películas tan conocidas como El retorno del Jedi o Indiana Jones y el templo maldito. En 1986 fundó la productora Propaganda Films, dirigiendo videos de alto presupuesto para artistas como Madonna incluyendo Express Yourself, George Michael, Aerosmith y los Rolling Stones con la canción Love Is Strong.

Como un gran número de directores de video clips, incluyendo Julien Temple, Russel Mulcahy, Michel Gondry o Spike Jonze, se ha trasladado al cine exitosamente con el estreno de Alien 3, que figura como una de las cintas con más alto presupuesto para un director debutante. Aunque contó con una crítica y recaudación baja, le sirvió de empujón para perfilar su carrera en cintas de corte existencialista como Se7en, The Game, El club de la lucha y La habitación del pánico, filmes que le han valido dispares críticas, pero que cimentaron su reputación de explorador del lado oscuro de nuestra sociedad y de las miserias humanas.

Su cine encierra una gran tensión psicológica, paranoia, pesadillas recurrentes y demonios interiores de la psique humana. Es un perfecto conocedor de los miedos más ocultos del ser humano y en su cine esos miedos están presentes en la mayoría de los fotogramas.

Visual y narrativamente su estilo es impecable, mostrando sobre todo un dominio magistral en la puesta en escena. Parte de su influencia visual se la debe al video clip.
